So what are the funding limitations that are slowing progress in TB vaccine research and development?

TB vaccine research is a priority for ending TB, but a lack of funding for vaccines research has been slowing the development of new vaccines.

One of the most important things to know for advocacy is how much funding is available versus how much funding is actually needed to develop new TB vaccines.

There are two important resources that will help you keep track of how much is needed for new vaccines research and how much is being invested every year.

The first of course is the Global Plan to End TB. Just like for medicines and diagnostics, the Global Plan lays out how much is needed for research on new vaccines.

The key number you need to know to advocate for TB vaccine research is an even 10 billion dollars. Between 2023 and 2030, 10 billion US dollars is needed to be invested in new TB vaccines research.

The strategic framework represents a consensus among the TB vaccines research community. It adds funding needs to the research priorities laid out in the roadmap for research and development of new TB vaccines developed by the European & Developing
Countries Clinical Trials Partnership and the Amsterdam Institute for Global Health and Development.

And the second resource is the Stop TB Partnership and Treatment Action Group (TAG) report, Tuberculosis Research Funding Trends.
Just like it does for other areas of research, this report gives you a breakdown of the resources that are invested each year for vaccines R&D and an analysis of funding trends. By looking up how much funding is available for TB vaccine research each year, you'll be
able to stay current with how much funding has been invested compared with the $10 billion that is needed between 2023 and 2030.
